Here’s how to determine how long your home search will take you.

Today we’ll take a closer look at the timeline for buying your first home. Whether you’re interested in buying now or in the future, it’s important to understand how long this process takes and why so that you are prepared to make a move based on your needs.

First, have an idea of the month or day you’d like to have the keys to move in. As a general guideline, it can take 30 to 45 days to get to the closing table even after your offer is accepted. Of course, this timeline could be lengthened based on counteroffers, lending requirements, or other circumstances out of our control.

If you wish to move in by a certain date, you’ll want to have your offer accepted on a property about 45 days beforehand. As an example, if you wish to have keys in hand by April 1, you want an accepted offer by mid-February.

We can help you find the perfect home and secure the best terms.

With that said, the majority of clients that we’re working with have taken about 30 days to find the home that fits their needs. Based on that April 1 timeline, you’ll want to begin your home search by mid-January. You can see that it would be a benefit to start speaking with us at least three months before your ideal move-in date. That way, we can help you find the perfect home and secure the best terms.

It’s never too early to speak with us to start the process, even if you don’t plan on buying right now. We’re ready to have a consultation with you either in person or virtually to educate you more about the process. We’d also love to see you at one of our upcoming first-time homebuyer workshops.
