You can buy or sell a home yourself, but there are good reasons not to.

We want to be completely truthful with you: You don’t need a Realtor. You don’t need a CPA to do your taxes, you can buy your insurance online, and you don’t need an attorney to represent you in court. You can do all these things yourself, but it’s still probably a good idea to work with a professional.

A key factor is that you don’t know what you don’t know. It’s a CPA’s job to know the tax laws, benefits, and disadvantages that change every year. The same is true for insurance brokers and attorneys in their respective fields. A Realtor knows what to look for and which questions to ask. They understand disclosures, proper marketing techniques, negotiation tactics, our current market, and how to get the best deal.

You can buy a home from the agent at an open house, but that agent works for the seller by state law. They are obligated to keep the seller’s best interests in mind, not yours. They won’t negotiate for you, so you’ll put yourself at a significant disadvantage without your own representation.

“You could buy or sell yourself, but you won’t get the same outcome that you could with a Realtor.”

You can search for your own homes online, but you’ll miss out on at least 40% of the houses on the market. There may be homes for sale that aren’t yet posted on the internet, and many of the listings you see on national websites are already sold or under contract. Nothing updates as quickly or more accurately as the Northstar MLS.

You can sell your home yourself, but you have to ask how much money you’ll be leaving on the table if you do. You could be missing out on thousands of buyers seeing your home, and that could lead to fewer offers and lower prices. On top of that, you’ll be liable to understand all the correct forms, contingencies, disclosures, and title issues that could happen.

The bottom line is that you could buy or sell yourself, but you won’t get the same outcome that you could with a Realtor. Call, text, or email us today to learn the benefits and options you’ll receive from working with our experienced team of professionals. We would love to hear from you.
