Cars For Neighbors provides an excellent service to the community.

Today we’d like to talk about a great non-profit organization called Cars For Neighbors, which is a great way to give back to our community by helping those in need. Joe McKenzie, director of Philanthropic Partnerships, joins us to tell us more.

Joe’s organization was founded back in 2000 as the Free To Be organization, but it was rebranded in 2014 as Cars for Neighbors. They started in the local area with churches and social service agencies because they identified that the need for transportation was holding many people back. Usually, we think of food and shelter as a way to give local support; however, a reliable vehicle can make a huge impact on someone’s life.

Cars For Neighbors has been able to help 4,000 families overcome some of their transportation barriers with safe, working vehicles.

Since the year 2000, they’ve been able to help 4,000 families overcome some of their transportation barriers with safe, working vehicles in and around Anoka County. The founders realized that the public transportation infrastructure in the area was limited; personal vehicles were the preferred and most essential way for someone to get to work, pick up their kids, take care of their elders, and more, and that still holds true today. Additionally, cars provide the ability to find a new or better job and maintain economic mobility.
